Raw Nutrients – Potassium
RAW Potassium: Power Flower
RAW Potassium delivers 50% water-soluble potash, derived from premium potassium sulphate. It offers the highest concentration of natural, water-soluble potassium available to home growers.
During fruiting and flowering, plants demand high levels of potassium, often leading to deficiencies if not addressed. RAW Potassium is the perfect solution for boosting potassium levels, treating deficiencies, and creating custom nutrient recipes.
Potassium is essential for plant growth, especially during the fruiting and flowering stages. Although it’s not physically part of plant tissue, potassium plays a critical role in activating the enzymes that drive plant development and reproduction.
Typically, a base nutrient contains around 1.5 times more potassium than nitrogen, while bloom formulas contain at least twice as much. By controlling the potassium-to-nitrate ratio, growers can dramatically improve the quality of fruits and flowers.
Key Features:

Potassium: The Health Element
Heavy fruiting and flowering pull large amounts of potassium from the nutrient solution, risking deficiencies. In crops like tomatoes, potassium deficiency leads to watery fruits, poor sugar content, and reduced shelf life. Keeping potassium levels high improves fruit quality, which is why many growers use a “boost” formula during these critical stages.
Topping off your water with potassium sulphate between reservoir changes helps replace what the plant consumes, ensuring continuous, high-quality production.
Spotting Potassium Deficiency:
Potassium deficiency typically shows as browning or “firing” along the leaf edges, sometimes accompanied by brown spots. A light application of potassium sulphate can quickly correct this — but be cautious. Overfertilisation or salt stress can cause similar symptoms. When unsure, flush the medium with a half-strength nutrient solution before refeeding with a balanced mix and added potassium.
If the symptoms were caused by deficiency, plants should quickly recover. If caused by salt toxicity, flushing is crucial.
Potassium and Carbohydrate Metabolism:
Potassium boosts carbohydrate metabolism, increasing sugar levels in the plant’s sap — measurable with a brix refractometer. Higher brix levels (higher sugar content) mean healthier plants and higher resistance to pests and diseases. Some growers report that brix readings above 12% make plants unrecognisable as food to many sucking insects.
To test, simply squeeze sap from the first fully developed top leaf and read the brix percentage. If it’s too low, adjusting the potassium-to-nitrate ratio can help lift it to optimal levels.
Balance is Key:
While potassium is crucial, too much can cause toxicity, leading to magnesium deficiency. Symptoms include interveinal yellowing, starting from the lower leaves and moving upward. If this occurs, reduce extra potassium inputs and, if necessary, mist the affected leaves with a magnesium sulphate solution for faster recovery.
