‘Laxton’s Number One’ Redcurrant Plant
- Redcurrants are like little fruiting rubies and, in our view at least, are far more precious!
- ‘Laxton’s Number One’ is an exceptional (and highly traditional) shrub, producing generous strigs of shiny red fruits in the summer that prove impossibly hard to resist – if you can make it back to the house with a trug full of berries, rather than redcurrant juice smeared all around your mouth, we’ll be genuinely impressed…
- A late-flowering variety, this variety is also highly regarded for its mildew-resistant properties
- Alongside their undoubted fruiting value, redcurrant bushes also offer great ornamental appeal, their alluring red berries contrasting beautifully with the lush green, lobed deciduous foliage that serves as a backdrop
- The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has certified the redcurrant plant as one of its Plants for Pollinators, so if you want to grow food *and* increase your garden’s wildlife presence, then varieties like this one are a great choice!
